Book-ish Dreams

I finished the book, Hunted by Elizabeth Heiter, about a month ago. If you’re into FBI suspense novels, I highly recommend it. It’s packed full of action, yet doesn’t leave out important character detail. I love that.

This book follows a FBI profiler, Evelyn Baine, who profiles a particularly evasive serial killer and ends up a target herself. Last night, I got a sample of Heiter’s new book Vanished that will be released at the end of the year. It’s the second book in this series. I only got a few pages in and went to bed.

I woke up in the middle of the night from a very real dream where I became part of the book. This hasn’t ever happened before. I am intrigued about the detail that my mind created. I turned into Evelyn, fighting for my life from said serial killer. My adrenaline was pumping. I was her. I felt the terror she felt. It was so real.

Needless to say, it took a while to fall back asleep.

Even though this dream was a bit crazy, I still think it is so cool. Our brains are quite complex. When you watch something, a movie, for example, there isn’t much left to imagine. What I love most about reading is the image that my mind formulates as I go. I have no choice but to create pictures of characters, plot, etc. My brain must have used these images to create such a life-like dream. That is fascinating.

Have you ever had a dream (or nightmare) based on a book you’ve read? If not, I highly recommend the experience especially if it’s less — well, terrifying!
